Year 3

Proverbs

Proverbs can be described as words of wisdom that are often based on common sense, and they tend to be used regularly by many people. There are six proverbs in this presentation: Indian, Czech, English, Egyptian, Thai and West African. Each proverb from another country gives the English equivalent when you click on the INFO button. These proverbs lend themselves to discussion and children could think of times when they may have applied to them. Proverbs have a rich history, and are found in almost every culture. One belief is that they originated from, and were most widely distributed by, the Bible.

Wind Poems

This is a set of three poems by Christina Rosetti: The Wind, Storm Wind and Whistling Wind. There are rich examples of personification, not just of the wind but of the sea and the waves. Children can discuss the powerful verbs that are used. Easy to memorise and recite, children could bring these poems to life using instruments or any other objects to produce sound and atmosphere.
